Efter att ha blivit sugen på att läsa mer high fantasy så beställde jag hem The Burning Sky, och det är inte ett köp jag ångrade. Trots att jag inte haft så mycket tid över att läsa, så har jag knappt kunnat tänka på annat än den här boken, och den är helt klart en ny favoritbok.
Handlingen är ganska långsam för det mesta, även om en hel del hinner att inträffa, men den blir aldrig tråkig. Jag trodde först att det var en renodlad high fantasy, så jag blev väldigt förvånad när karaktärerna helt plötsligt var i våran värld. The Burning Sky innehåller lite av allt, det finns olika magiska realms, hemliga portaler, drakar, Storbrittanien på 1800-talet, pojkskolan Eton, kärlek, och en hel del magi. Jag älskar dessutom inledningen så mycket att jag tänker citera den här, och om inte detta gör er sugen på att läsa boken..ja, då vet jag inte vad jag ska säga;
"Just before the start of Summer Half, in April 1883, a very minor event took place at Eton College, that venerable and illustrious English public school for boys. A sixteen-year-old pupil named Archer Fairfax returned from a three-month absence, caused by a fractured femur, to resume his education.
Almost every word in the preceding sentence is false. Archer Fairfax had not suffered a broken limb. He had never before set foot in Eton. His name was not Archer Fairfax. And he was not, in fact, even a he.

Helt fantastiskt.. Hur som helst, över till karaktärerna. Jag älskar Iolanthe och Titus, både tillsammans och var för sig. Båda är väldigt modiga, smarta, och charmiga, och ett nöje att följa. Jag älskar dessutom att romansen inte är självklar. Det tar lång tid för den att utvecklas, och den börjar med avsky från Iolanthes håll. Sidokaraktärerna var också väldigt intressanta, allra helst the Inquisitor.
The Burning Sky var en suberb bok, och jag tyckte så mycket om den. Världsuppbyggnaden var fantastisk, handlingen var oerhört bra, och jag älskade karaktärerna. Jag ser oerhört fram emot fortsättningen som kommer senare i år, och The Burning Sky är en bok jag mer än gärna rekommenderar.
